Correct Mowing Makes a Big Difference

Properly mowing your lawn can be as important as watering and fertilizing. Using the right techniques and mowing with proper frequency will help in maintaining the health and reducing the stresses of your lawn. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you are mowing.

  • Always use sharp blades when mowing. Residential blades should be sharpened once or twice throughout each mowing season or after approximately 40 hours of cutting.
  • Take no more that 1/3 of the leaf off at any single mowing.
  • Cool season grasses should be mowed at a height of approximately 2.5 to 3 inches and warm season grasses to a height of approximately 1 to 1.5 inches.
  • In drought conditions, mowing your lawn at a higher cutting height and with sharp blades will help in reducing stress on the grass.
